North American Council for Freight Efficiency
Yunsu Park has nearly 30 years experience in the heavy truck and diesel engine industry. He began working with trucks at Navistar where he started as a financial analyst for the Severe Service Truck business unit. During his time at Navistar, he also led the finance group for the same business unit as the Director of Finance and later served as the Program Manager and Managing Director of Navistar Engines Germany, which was formed to co-develop a new engine family with MAN AG for which he was based in Nuremberg, Germany. After Navistar, Yunsu briefly led program operations for the development of marine diesel engines at GE Transportation followed by four years as Chief Technology/Chief Operations Officer at Propel IT, a start-up company in Pittsburgh, PA. At Propel, Yunsu developed the algorithms and systems to measure and incent long-haul truck drivers to drive more fuel efficiently. The system was the first of its kind to measure fuel efficiency of a driver based on the operator’s driving behaviors, not the MPG of the truck, which was directly integrated with an incentive system.
Yunsu currently serves as the Engineering Director for the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) and also consults for technology companies and fleets in the heavy truck industry. He was the project lead and lead writer for several reports published through NACFE including ones on low-rolling resistance tires, low viscosity engine lubrication, an update on 6×2 axles and the final report on Run on Less, the demonstration that resulted in seven trucks averaging 10.1 MPG while hauling real freight over the course of 17 days.
Yunsu holds a BSME from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from Indiana University, Bloomington.
