Patrick Atwater serves as Executive Director for Applied Research in Government Operations (“ARGO”), a public data infrastructure nonprofit that powers a coalition of water utilities serving twenty three million Californians. As part of Team ARGO, his civic data science work has been featured by Fast Coexist, Harpers Magazine, KNX News Radio and many industry news outlets. ARGO’s analytics have helped partner utilities save over $20 million and informed smart optimizations in the half a billion dollars invested in cash for grass water conservation rebates.
He studied mathematics and PPE at Claremont McKenna College, holds a master’s degree in urban informatics from NYU CUSP, and completed the Coro Fellows program. He previously served on the boards of the Los Angeles Education Partnership and the League of Woman Voters of California and has written extensively on California, technology and the future of government operations.
