Gary Resnick was first elected to the Wilton Manors City Commission in 1998, and was first elected Mayor in 2008. In addition to his elected position, Gary is a shareholder in the law firm GrayRobinson, PA in its Fort Lauderdale office, chairs the firm’s communications/broadband practice, and has been recognized as one of the top lawyers in Florida in the area of telecommunications. His practice includes the representation of local governments, educational institutions, homeowner associations and property owners on regulatory, contract, and communications issues and in litigation, as well as land use and rights of way issues. Gary has been representing municipalities and counties throughout Florida on the implementation of Florida’s Advanced Wireless Infrastructure Deployment Act, which became effective in 2017, and addresses local regulation of small cell wireless facilities in the public rights-of-way.
Gary is very active representing municipal interests with local, state and national organizations. On the national level, Gary served as Chair of the Federal Communications Commission’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee, which addresses communications issues vital to local communities. Gary has testified four times in 2015, 2017, and 2018, before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, on issues related to wireless broadband deployment. In 2018, Gary was appointed to the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities and Chair of its Information, Technology and Communications Policy Committee and has long served on NLC’s Legal Advisory Committee.
Gary has been very active with the Florida League of Cities, chaired several of its policy committees, served on the Executive Committee, and has served on the League’s Board of Directors since 2003. A staunch defender of home rule, Gary is the recipient of the League’s Home Rule Hero Award. In addition, Gary served as President of the Broward County League of Cities from 2009-2010, and currently serves as Treasurer and Chairs its Legislative Advocacy Committee. Gary is a frequent presenter at national and state conferences on issues vital to local governments, including Florida Municipal Attorneys Association conferences.
Originally from New Jersey, Gary graduated Bucknell University in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Economics and received his Juris Doctor with honors from Rutgers University School of Law. Gary and his long-term partner, Eric, enjoy spending time with their rescued Golden Retriever and travelling.
