Christopher Thomas is the Director of Government Markets for Esri. Christopher has over 30 years of experience working in and with governments around the world in integrating technology into government business processes. Christopher is most noted for his pioneering work in the areas of the adoption and adaptation of technology by governments and citizens alike. He is viewed as a pioneer and thought leader in the field of GIS with credits ranging from the first documentation of the business value of GIS in government to some of the world’s first implementations of enterprise systems, mobile government, e-government, the use of 3D statistical modeling for decision support, and public access governance. Today Christopher’s work extends to open government, mentoring tech start-ups through accelerators, and executive outreach.

Christopher is a regular author on the topic of technology in government and has written articles on Governing and Government Technology, blogs on Govloop, and books including Measuring Up: The Business Case for GIS, Mapping for Congress, Tribal GIS, Standards for Success, and Decision Support: The Business Case for GIS in Public Policy.
