Caitlin Johnson

Biography

A writer and journalist with a passion for online engagement and digital movement building, Caitlin co-founded and runs SparkAction, a collaborative storytelling and advocacy platform to mobilize action for and by young people. Previously, she served as a communications advisor and technical writer for organizations including the Center for Law and Social Policy, Mathematica Policy Research, Kellogg Foundation, and ABFE (Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities). A Casey Journalism Fellow and a John Jay Justice Journalism Fellow, Caitlin has written on social issues, poverty and the impact of public policies on communities for YahooNews, City Limits, Nation’s Cities Weekly, KidsHealth and other outlets. She has also taught middle school creative writing in Washington, DC, and organized a nationally competitive youth poetry slam team. Caitlin holds an MFA in fiction from the University of Virginia, where she was a Hoynes Fellow and received a Poe Fellowship; her fiction has appeared in Five Points, Gargoyle and other journals.
