Executive Vice President
Bill Van Amburg is the Executive Vice President of CALSTART, North America’s leading clean transportation technology organization with nearly 200 supporting member companies. He has over 40 years of experience, including technology development, commercialization and marketing. He is considered an industry expert in advanced technologies for transportation.
Bill is involved in all aspects of CALSTART’s work across cars, trucks, buses and fuels, but also serves as the Initiative leader for the medium- and heavy-duty truck and off-road equipment sector, which is a focus area because of its rapidly growing contribution to climate and air emissions globally. His responsibilities include heading up strategy and overseeing the Initiative’s portfolio of activities as well as leading business development and other management activities. He and his team recently developed with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) a “beachhead” or phased introduction strategy for market transformation of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles for zero emission, low NOx and efficiency technology pathways that form the basis for a multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment plan and also shaped strategy for a new Global Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero program.
Bill is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Anthropology, is a graduate of the Executive Management Program at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, has a certificate in brand management from Stanford and served on the founding Board of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency.
