Biography

AC Gonzalez has been integral in making some big things happen in Dallas. He’s led projects such as the Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel, the modernization and expansion of the Love Field Airport, the revitalization of downtown and the expansion of streetcars in the city. Years ago, as an ACM, he even negotiated bringing in the Dallas Stars professional ice hockey team. What was amazing is most cities pay big bucks for professional sports teams to relocate, but AC got the Stars to pay Dallas!

Mr. Gonzalez served as Dallas City Manager from 2013 to 2017. He oversaw a budget of more than $3 billion dollars, and was responsible for all municipal operations, including the management of approximately 13,000 employees.

Mr. Gonzalez brings over 31 years of municipal management experience, about half of which were with the City of Dallas and half with smaller cities in Texas. In those cities, he negotiated the purchase of an electric distribution system, attracted numerous federal grants programs of all kinds, addressed economic development issues…. in short, really knows the challenges and opportunities in cities.

He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with honors and earned his master’s in urban studies from Trinity University. He managed his first city when he was 23, becoming one of the youngest City Managers in the country. Now, he has a consulting practice and is a Senior Advisor for members of TCMA and ICMA.
