Synopsis

Undesign the Redline will give City Summit participants a comprehensive look at redlining policies and other mechanisms of structural racism in cities across America. Through maps, current day stories and a historical overview, this interactive presentation explores the policies that shaped why cities look the way they do today. Brought to you by the NLC Race, Equity, And Leadership (REAL) Department and the Texas Municipal League, this exhibit brings to life the historical background for many equity issues NLC member cities confront. This traveling exhibit invites participants to interact with the stories and imagine opportunities to change the trajectory of ongoing structural inequities. Cities that have acted to “undesign” the impacts of these policies will be highlighted. Participants are invited to add their own narratives and ideas for change in their cities at the end of the exhibit. The exhibit will be open to all City Summit participants outside of Room 305 of the convention center from 9:00 a.m. on Thursday through noon on Saturday. Guided tours will be offered at intervals throughout the conference to help orient participants.
