Synopsis

The City of Arlington, Texas and the University of Texas at Arlington used a multi-sensor robot to inspect all 254,00 feet of large diameter sewer main in the City sewer system. The technology and data obtained on pipe condition is a departure from typical practice for replacing aging sewer pipe. The overarching aim was to prevent unplanned sewer line failures which could have catastrophic environmental and economic consequences and endanger public health. Forming this unique partnership, coupled with innovative and proven technology, has already saved the city’s residents $17 million to date (7X the cost) and enhanced the student experience at UTA. Arlington’s Mayor and City Council have been encouraging collaboration between the City and University and “Putting Technology to Work.”
