NLC City Summit

Synopsis

Nearly 200 cities joined the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Community Challenge, a program to improve the outcomes for boys and men of color— launched in 2015 by President Obama. City leaders have agreed to take action by launching city-wide initiatives, starting mentoring programs and changing local policies. As city leaders seek to build on current efforts, it is crucial to understand actual examples of actions that can alter systemic barriers for boys and men of color. This session will lift-up the voices of boys and men of color from the Los Angeles area while highlighting policy actions that can improve their lives. Race, Equity And Leadership (REAL) will also host a reception to introduce participants to an informative and interactive exhibit on redlining.

Moderator

  • Sebastian Franco Heinz Fellow, Race, Equity, And Leadership (REAL) Program - National League of Cities
