Synopsis

The presentation will cover how childhood traumas, or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) increase a person’s risk for chronic disease and in response, the City’s journey towards becoming a certified Trauma Informed Care Community. It will also discuss the South Texas Trauma-Informed Care Consortium, a collaboration led by The Children’s Shelter, Voices for Children and City of San Antonio, that brings together over 500 community partners across 12 different sectors who are committed to addressing the impact of ACEs by implementing trauma informed approaches. The focus of the consortium is to create a locally-run certification process to ensure all organizations in the community are implementing trauma informed approaches consistently and effectively to mitigate childhood trauma.
