Synopsis

San Antonio’s historic 130 year old City Hall is an icon of public service and municipal government.  Originally designed as a grand statement of Renaissance Revival architecture, the current structure size sits at roughly 52,000 sq. ft.  It will undergo a much needed renovation at a cost of 38 million as approved by council under the 2017 bond.  The renovation will take into account the vast history of the structure as well as incorporate much needed upgrades that allow for better inclusion of the community.  While keeping in line with the sensitivity of the design ADA ramps will also be incorporated for better accessibility and inclusivity to City Hall.  Along the way the tour will showcase the Alameda Theater which was originally built in 1949.  The theater will be restored and reopen as a multi-media live performing arts and film center featuring the American Latino-Multicultural Story.  The tour will conclude with the newly completed Phase 1 San Pedro Creek improvements.  This segment will highlight the city’s art culture as well as art murals indicative of the creeks history.  Phase 1 was completed on May 5, 2018 and is part of four phases that will span 2.2 miles long. Travel time to City Hall is 7 minutes from Convention Center. This is a walking tour, and hard sole, closed toe shoes and pants are required.
