Virtual Event FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

NLC is going virtual! Learn more with these FAQs.

Virtual Information

Why is NLC going from hybrid to virtual?

The health and wellbeing of our NLC community is always first and foremost in our mind. As we track the current trajectory of COVID-19, we have made the decision to switch City Summit 2021 to a fully virtual attendee experience.

Given the uncertainty associated with the Delta variant and potential travel and safety challenges, we believe a virtual conference experience will provide the best opportunity to learn, engage and be inspired.

We are grateful to our 2021 host city of Salt Lake City, Utah, and look forward to holding City Summit there in the future.

See our official statement here.

Have the dates of the conference changed now that it is virtual?

The conference dates have shifted slightly, to limit virtual meeting time on the weekend.

  • The main City Summit 2021 conference will take place November 17-19.
  • The pre-conference events (which include committee meetings, board meetings and Executive Education sessions) will occur November 12th, 15th and 17th.
  • Registration for the virtual conference will be open through November 19, 2021.
  • The early bird registration now ends on September 30.

Has the ticket pricing changed for the virtual conference?

Pricing is the same because NLC’s virtual programmatic content will be just as robust, led by experts, and comparable to the in-person conference.

What if I registered for the in-person event? What do I need to do to transfer my registration from in-person to virtual?

All current registered attendees will automatically be converted to a virtual registration. You will receive access to the virtual event platform as the event gets closer.

What platform will host NLC’s virtual 2021 City Summit?

City Summit will be hosted on an event platform that uses Zoom. If you attended last year’s City Summit or CCC 2021, it will be the same platform. You may participate in the virtual event from a laptop, computer (Mac or PC) or tablet (Android or iOS).

How will attendees access the event site?

Access to the 2021 City Summit event site will be available a few weeks before the event. Attendees will have access to the site until January 30, 2022. In the email that you receive from NLC (conferences@nlc.org) there will be a link to “claim your account.” Your name and email address that was used when registering should be pre-populated when first claiming your account, and you will need to create a password to get access to your profile.

I registered for Executive Education Sessions. Will they still occur?

Yes. All Executive Education sessions will be held virtually.

Housing and Travel

I’ve already purchased airfare and hotel accommodations. Will I be refunded?

All hotel rooms reserved through NLC’s registration process at a designated conference hotel will be canceled with no penalty to you, on your behalf. If you made hotel reservations on your own, you would need to contact the hotel and cancel those reservations. We encourage you to check with individual airlines for their refund policies.

Who can I talk to if I have questions about my registration and housing reservations?

Please call our registration and housing team at Maritz.

Ticket Refunds and Cancellations

I do not plan on attending the conference virtually. Can I get a refund on my registration?

If you choose not to participate in the conference virtually, you must submit your cancellation in writing to nlccs@maritz.com by November 1, 2021. You will be given the option to apply your registration to the Congressional City Conference which will be held in Washington, DC March 14-16 or get a full refund. No partial refunds will be made if you decide not to attend particular functions. No registrations nor cancellations will be accepted by telephone. No cancellations will be accepted after November 1, 2021. Substitutions are permitted and can be made at any time.

How do I cancel my Constituency Group Activity Fee?

All Constituency Group Activity Fees will automatically be refunded as there will not be a virtual Constituency Group Activity. Please allow 4-6 weeks for this refund to be processed.

How do I cancel my group registration?

All changes and cancellation requests must be made in writing to nlccs@maritz.com. Substitutions are welcome.

What happens to spouse/guest registrants?
