Bernadette Onyenaka

Prior to joining NLC, Bernadette served as a Program Specialist for the NAACP, National Health Programs. There she functioned as the program lead for the Childhood Obesity Initiative, providing oversight for the advocacy and programmatic efforts of funded affiliates, while providing implementation support for other health initiatives.

As a motivated advocate for racial equity, Ms. Onyenaka’s primary focus is to engage various power actors, leaders, and influencers to facilitate their comprehensive understanding of structural oppression to influence programmatic, policy, and systems change—fostered by open and honest discourse about structural and institutional racism and the application of a racial equity theory of change. Ms. Onyenaka earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Health Behavior Management and Master’s degree in Health Promotion from the University of Delaware.
